THE HAYMARKET 2018
A spotlight on Woody Herman
No other bandleader in the history of jazz had the staying power of Woody Herman. From the Band That Plays the Blues, Herman’s first ensemble, organized in 1936, through the many “Herds” that came and went from the 1940s to the 1980s, Herman managed to maintain vitality in his big bands by continually working with young talent and keeping the repertoire modern by playing and creating new music.
The 20 piece IJO Big Band return to the Haymarket for a special night featuring some of Woody’s greatest hits: Woodchopper’s Ball, Early Autumn, Four Brothers, Apple Honey and many others. The show will also include hits by contemporary bands and will feature the IJO’s great singers.
You can count on an exciting evening of Swinging Big Band Sounds
